How does light therapy work? The bacteria responsible for acne inflammation create molecules that are called porphyrins. When those porphyrins are exposed to certain wavelengths of light, they produce free radicals that kill the bacteria. Once acne-causing bacteria are eliminated, the inflammation caused is reduced and acne clears up.

Treatments are simple and painless - a nurse applies the Levulan, which is left to set for up to one hour.
