Uro-Gynaecology

A Urogynecologist is an Obstetrician/Gynecologist who specializes in the care of women with pelvic floor dysfunction. Problems pertaining to urogynecology, such as urinary incontinence, are very common and can often be taken care of successfully. Some women suffer from stress incontinence – the loss of urine while straining such as coughing, laughing or sneezing. Many others suffer from urge incontinence – an uncontrollable need to go to the bathroom often leading to unpreventable leaking.

Urinary incontinence and other problems that fall under the branch of medicine called “urogynecology” can be bothersome, both physically and emotionally. Because of the fear of public embarrassment, many women shy away from engaging in activities where their “secret” may be revealed. But precisely because such symptoms are very common, and can often be treated, it is important that you discuss them with an experienced medical specialist

Many women also suffer from irritative symptoms of the lower urinary tract. Women are far more likely than men to suffer from urinary tract infections for instance, which can sometimes be persistent. Careful treatment of these infections can diminish the likelihood that they will spread to the kidneys. We offer assessments of pelvic organ prolapse, pelvic visceral pain syndromes, pelvic floor weakness and pessary fittings.
